Running makes my life more worthwhile. When I run, it’s my time to think, strategize, and reflect. Running also became the reason that I would travel all over the world. In May of 2011, I accomplished my goal of running a marathon on all 7 continents, Fewer than 100 women have accomplished this challenge. This experience formed the basis of my Leadership Principles which will help you achieve your own personal and professional goals, too.
Principle 1
Begin with the End in Mind – Stephen Covey
Start with a clear understanding of where you are going. Then set your plan and live intentionally so when you look back, you are pleased with what you see.
Principle 2
Strategy. Action. Results.
Each person’s goals are different, yet the process to attain them is essentially the same. Improve your success of better, faster results when you set strategy and take focused actions.
Principle 3
When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change. – Dr Wayne Dyer
Viewing a situation from a different perspective shifts how you feel about it.
You have the power within you to choose a perspective that is more empowering.
Principle 4
Yes, Not Now
Sometimes your aspirations get dashed and you don’t accomplish what you set out to do. Stay the course and don’t abandon worthwhile goals. Each failure gets you closer to your “win”.
Principle 5
“Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway”
What is that fear that is holding you back from what you want accomplish? FEAR is an acronym for “false expectations appearing real”. Often the barriers of success are only in your mind.
Principle 6
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just that little extra” – Jimmy Johnson
Ordinary is “usual, regular, normal” while extraordinary is “remarkable, special, exceptional”. Often just a little more effort can yield an extraordinary return.
Principle 7
Pay Yourself First
You need to take care of yourself first, in order to do good work for others and the world. What do you need to be on top of your game physically, mentally and spiritually?
I live by my motto:
“Live intentionally, be extraordinary and do great things for your world.”
